Absolute Radio. (2015). Noel Gallagher tells Ian Wright about his songwriting technique. Available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-cBct4EKRs. Last accessed 15th may 2019.

From watching this short clip I learned the importance of motivation in songwriting, Noel talks about his enjoyment of the creative process and how his songs come to him, he said ‘they just fall from the sky’. He also says that this often happens while he is practicing, though he does not specify how he practices, Ian refers to it as ‘pottering about’ and Noel agrees with him on this statement.

He also says that everytime he writes a song he says to himself thats one of his good ones and that it can’t get any better but after a month he might write something else is better than what he had already done, he says that he enjoys this and I would assume because it can show his progression and because as he previously mentioned

Word Gets Around – Stereophonics Fan Community. (2016). Kelly Jones – Songbook 2011 (FULL). Available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzrmGpna2yI. Last accessed 11th May 2019.

From watching this performance/interview I learnt about the importance and role that personal events and situations can play when writing songs as it means you can write lyrics that will reflect upon yourself, in the song ‘Local Boy In The Photograph’ Kelly Jones speaks to us about the death of someone he once played county football with, he says that the inspiration for the song is about a friend who’s life has sadly come to an end, during the song he speaks in reference to both the train and his friend.

“Something blocks the line again and the train runs late for the first time” This line of the song speaks about how his friend jumped in front of the train and onto the tracks, this gives an automatic connotation of the train having having to stop because of the body blocking the line causing a delay in the trains course.

I like this line because of the personal connection the song has to the author, the song was written to remember his life instead of reminding people of his death, during the interview kelly speaks of how his friends death was unexpected and how suicide wasn’t very expected of people at that time.
